How many national parks are there in the US?
There are 63 national parks in the United States, spread across 32 states and territories. The National Park Service manages more than 400 sites in all, but only these 63 carry the full "National Park" designation. California has the most, with 9.
What was the most visited national park in 2025?
Great Smoky Mountains National Park, with 11,527,939 recreation visits in 2025, followed by Zion (4,984,525) and Yellowstone (4,762,988), according to NPS Visitor Use Statistics. The least visited was Kobuk Valley National Park.
What is the newest national park?
New River Gorge National Park & Preserve, established on December 27, 2020.
What is the largest national park?
Wrangell–St. Elias National Park & Preserve in Alaska, at about 8,323,146 acres.
Is the America the Beautiful pass worth it?
For US residents it's $80 a year and covers entrance fees at every national park, so a trip to three parks at $35 a vehicle usually pays it off. From 2026, nonresidents pay $250 for the annual pass, and 11 of the busiest parks add a $100 per-person nonresident fee (ages 16+) unless you have an annual pass.
